Clubs Come Together To Celebrate The 50th Anniversary Of Loughor Old Age. December 08, 2015 06:52

Well folks, Loughor Old Age know how to celebrate an Anniversary! Chairs Jill and John Thomas hosted a fabulous party at Loughor Welfare Hall. The Pengry's Chairman Iain Murray and Club Secretary Les Davies attended the event. Alongside dignitaries Regional Old Age Chair John Davies, Loughor Mayor Cllr. Robert Smith, Gorsenon Mayor Cllr. Ken Jones, Gower Area Vice-Chair Peggy Clement and Swansea DJ Kevin John. We were move to tears listening to The Welsh Speaking School Choir who sang so poignantly. Whilst guest speaker DJ Kevin John also made us cry, with laughter, as he regaled hilarious story after story. All guests agreed that the hall was beautifully decorated and the buffet superb. Organised by Ladies on the Loughor Old Age Committee, what attention to detail and what a spread! Last but by no means least the cake was cut by 91years young Mrs Mima Lloyd, whose mother was a founder member of the branch. Isn't it fantastic when different people, different clubs and different age groups all come together...

The Pengry's Fun-Filled Charity Night In Aid Of Ty Olwen. September 02, 2015 10:11 1 Comment

Our Club made a promise to Ty Olwen's President Margaret Bartlett in 2011 to continue supporting their work. True to our word another fantastic effort was made by the Committee and Club Members. Rocket Joe Joe & The Old Time Bangers, an amazing live band took us back to the 50's and 60's, as we partied until the early hours. Thank you to Band Members: Jess, Dan, Jason & Matt you were brilliant! The Auction was fast and furious with Members bidding for a signed and authorised Scarlett's Rugby Shirt. Culminating in the last Two Men or should I say Two Women standing, and secured by a very generous Club Member who bid a whopping £110. Another one of our Members kindly donated £50 and many Members bought tickets for a very impressive Raffle.

Margaret Bartlett was unable to attend due to ill health and sent her apologies, she was greatly missed and Club Members wish her a speedy recovery. In Margaret's absence Ty Olwen's Chairwoman Helen Murray gave a witty and in-part poignant speech. Whilst thanking the Club for their continued support; Helen reminded us that Ty Olwen was about a team of dedicated staff and volunteers, but above all was about the Residents. It was about ensuring the best palliative care at all times, with an emphasis on the person's dignity and making things fun.

A massive thank you to everyone who came and supported this very worthy cause with what proved to be another Fun-Filled Charity Night at The Pengry.

We raised a total of £700

Our Epic Blackpool Adventure.....

Pengry members' joined fellow club members' on a fabulous long week-end away in Blackpool, which was superbly organised by Christine Murray. We had a brilliant journey down last Thursday and likewise brilliant return journey home on Monday. What a mini break fellow bloggers! I visited The Cavern & Docklands in Liverpool, Sea Life, The Tower Ballroom, Harry Ramsden's & marvelled at Funny Girls Cabaret, whilst ensuring some serious shopping time! At a cost of only £150 per person inclusive of transport there & back, half board, nightly entertainment & two excursions it was absolutely amazing value for money. I have travelled to many places abroad but apart from the Gower never really holidayed within the UK. Seriously; I did not realise what we can enjoy right here on our own doorstep! Well enough chatter, I hope you enjoy my pictures & videos.

Visiting Liverpool where I watched 3 men defy gravity.

Even though I'm into R&B Music personally, the Tower Ballroom was amazing.
